EUROPEAN WEEK OF SPORT CHALLENGES CONTEST RULES

1. ABOUT
The European Week of Sport aims to promote sport and physical activity across Europe. The Week is for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level. This week aims to inspire Europeans to #BeActive on a regular basis and create opportunities in peoples’ everyday lives to exercise more. To get Europe moving in a fun way, a contest will be held with sportive challenges to complete. The #BeActive challenges (hereafter referred to as the “contest”) are organised by the European
Commission (EC).

The EC reserves the right to modify, discontinue temporarily or permanently, this contest, at any time and from time to time without any liability whatsoever, with or without prior notice to participants.

2. PARTICIPATIONS

2.1 HOW
To enter the competition participants need to follow 3 steps:
1. complete the challenge (specified in “3. Challenges”) and take a photo or a video of it
2. share it on one of the following social media platforms: Instagram or Twitter
3. add the hashtag #BeActive

Those 3 elements are mandatory to be eligible for the contest.

Every week a new challenge will be announced. In total there will be 5 challenges in which participants can partake in. Each challenge is open for 2 weeks for participants to share their entry. After the end date of each challenge, no further entries will be accepted.

2.2 PARTICIPATIONS TERMS & CONDITIONS
The EC accepts no responsibility for entries that were sent but not received, for whatever reason.
This includes but is not limited to lack of access to entries due to participants’ privacy settings on their chosen online platforms.

The EC accepts no responsibility for loss, delay, misdirection, damage, or failed delivery—whether due to technical difficulties affecting electronic communication or else—of entries.
Participation in the contest will take place via external online platforms/websites which may contain links to external websites, resources and advertisers. The EC is not responsible for the availability of these external sites, nor does the EC endorse or agree to be responsible for the contents, advertising, products or other materials made available on or through such external sites. The EC cannot, under any circumstance, be held responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any loss or damage caused or alleged to have been caused, to a user in connection with the use of, or reliance on, any content, goods or services available on such external sites.

Entries shall not contain any material and/or statement which violates or infringes in any way upon the rights of others, which is unlawful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, vulgar, obscene, profane, indecent or otherwise objectionable, which encourages conduct or is conduct that would constitute a criminal offence, gives rise to civil liability or otherwise violates any applicable law. Entries failing to comply with this provision will be disqualified without prior notification. The EC reserves the right to remove any entries deemed inappropriate. The EC’s decision in this matter will be final.

3. CHALLENGES

3.1 THE HAKA
Europeans are invited to create a photo or a video of a variant of a haka, a ceremonial war dance involving chanting, and share it afterwards on Twitter or Instagram and add the hashtag #BeActive on their publication.

This challenge will take place from Monday the 2nd of July 2018 at 9:00AM until Sunday the 15th of July 2018 at midnight, CET time.

3.2 THE FRUIT LIFT
Europeans are invited to create a photo or a video of doing a weight lift with fruit and share it afterwards on Twitter or Instagram and add the hashtag #BeActive on their publication.

This challenge will take place from Monday the 9th of July 2018 at 9:00AM until Sunday the 22nd of July 2018 at midnight, CET time.

3.3 THE RACE
Europeans are invited to create a photo or a video of a desk chair race and share it afterwards on
Twitter or Instagram and add the hashtag #BeActive on their publication.

This challenge will take place from Monday the 16th of July 2018 at 9:00AM until Sunday the 29th of
July 2018 at midnight, CET time.

3.4 THE SELFTREE
Europeans are invited to take a selfie of themselves and a beautiful tree they found while hiking/walking /running and share it afterwards on Twitter or Instagram and add the hashtag #BeActive on their publication.

This challenge will take place from Monday the 23th of July 2018 at 9:00AM until Sunday the 5th of August 2018 at midnight, CET time.

3.5 THE GREEN SHOT
Europeans are invited to create a a photo or a video throwing some waste in a rubbish bin and share it afterwards on Twitter or Instagram and add the hashtag #BeActive on their publication.

This challenge will take place from Monday the 30th of July 2018 at 9:00AM until Sunday the 12th of August 2018 at midnight, CET time.

 

4. WINNERS

4.1 PRIZES
After the closing date of each challenge a jury will select 1 participant per challenge as the winner. When the 5 challenges have ended, the jury will also choose an overall winner. Winning a challenge does not exclude participants from winning another one or being the overall winner.

Winners will be selected by a jury composed by the EC based on creativity and conformity with these contest’s rules. They will be contacted via a private message and/or comment on their entry. If a response is not received within 14 days after the end of corresponding challenge, the EC reserves the right to choose another winner.

• THE HAKA
The winner will be announced on Wednesday the 18th of July 2018.


• THE FRUIT LIFT
The winner will be announced on Wednesday the 25th of July 2018.


• THE RACE
The winner will be announced on Wednesday the 1st of August 2018.


• THE SELFTREE
The winner will be announced on Wednesday the 8th of August 2018.


• THE GREEN SHOT
The winner will be announced on Wednesday the 16th of August 2018.


• OVERALL WINNER
One participant will be announced as the overall winner on the 20th of August 2018

4.2 GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS
The EC will not enter into any correspondence concerning the contest including, but not limited to, the selection of winners, announcement of results, and decisions on lack of eligibility or on disqualifications.

If the EC believes that a selected winner has broken any part of these contest rules, the EC reserves the right to choose an alternative winner.

The prizes are as stated above or on the EC’S webpage for the European Week of Sport and are non-transferable and non-exchangeable. No cash or credit alternative will be offered. The EC reserves the right, if the stated prize is unavailable, to offer an award of similar value. All prizes are subject to the relevant terms and conditions of the supplier of the service included in the prize.

If the prize includes travel arrangements, the relevant tickets will be limited to a maximum value as stated on the EC’S webpage for the European Week of Sport. Travel tickets and accommodation will be arranged by the EC or an agent of the EC.

In the case where it is impossible to facilitate travel from the participant’s home to the prize’s destination included, the EC reserves the right to offer a travel voucher in accordance with the assigned budget of the travel prize for use at the discretion of the winner.

The EC will under no circumstance whatsoever irrespective of the cause therefore, be liable for any loss, damage or personal injury to the winner nor to property or else caused or suffered in connection with this contest or any prize(s) awarded in connection herewith.

The EC will under no circumstance whatsoever be liable for any delays, changes, disruptions, cancellations, diversions or substitutions, unavailability of the prize(s) due to local public holidays or other conditions affecting availability or enjoyment of the prize(s), nor any act or omission whatsoever by any form of transportation and/or accommodation included in the prize(s). The EC shall not be liable in respect of any non-performance of its obligations by reason of any act of God, civil war or trife, hostilities, act of foreign enemy, invasion, war, satellite failure, legal enactment, governmental order or regulation or any other cause beyond its control.

If a winning participant is under the age of 18, the winner must be accompanied during the enjoyment of a ‘travel’ prize, by a legal parent or guardian.

5. PARTICIPANTS

The contest is not open to employees of the EU institutions and any subcontractor in charge of the organisation of the contest, nor to their immediate relatives. Participants must be natural persons: legal entities are excluded from participation. Participants must at least be 13 years old to enter the contest, as this is the legal age to create a Facebook or a Twitter account. Participants younger than 16 years old, need to have permission of their parents before entering. If asked they need to be able to present a written permission.

The EC may disqualify any participant who is thought to be cheating in any way. Entries of disqualified participants will be subsequently withdrawn from the contest.Participants are solely responsible for costs or expenses incurred as a result of participating in the contest (including, without limitation, costs for accessing the Internet). Participants are advised to check the cost of participation with their local Internet service providers.

Participants are solely responsible for any costs, taxes, duties or levies incurred as a result of participation in the contest or winning the contest. Participants acknowledge that as a result of winning the contest, they may incur taxes, duties or levies under applicable laws and regulations. Participants unconditionally accept to bear any such taxes, duties or levies on their own behalf, and on behalf of their accompanying guest.

Participants grant the EC any and all rights required for distribution and public display of any videos, images, submitted text or other intellectual property rights that may arise from participation in the contest, the prizes or related publicity, and hereby grant the EC the perpetual right to exclusively and royalty-free and without limitation use, edit, copy, reproduce, distribute, translate, and publicly display or publish such intellectual property rights, for whatever purpose, in any form or medium, either on this website or elsewhere, for promotional activities or events arranged by the promoter, whether locally or world-wide.

Except for the purpose of this contest (including subsequent promotions as stated in these Terms and Conditions), the EC will not disclose to any third-party, any personal information, including but not limited to, the participant’s name, age, address, telephone number, and email address. Personal information will only be used in connection with the contest. The European Commission Legal Notice pa.eu/geninfo/legal_notices_en.htm under ‘Legal Notice’ applies to any processing of data performed in connection herewith.
